My grandparents and my mom came from Cuba back in the '60s because they were fleeing from communism and Castro. I wouldn't be here otherwise.
Copy Quote View & ShareMy mom is big on moisturizer and water. She always reminds me to drink a lot of water and wear sunglasses because I always forget them when I go out, even though they are one of my favorite accessories. She always reminds me about wrinkles, and always did, so it's kind of been ingrained into me.
Copy Quote View & ShareMy mom always let me watch movies that were probably slightly too mature for my age, but she wanted me to see different stories. We grew up with quite a hard life, so she wasn't afraid to show me that in movies.
Copy Quote View & ShareWhen I was little, I didn't have dreams to be an actress or a star; I wanted to be a mom, have a house and a picket fence.
Copy Quote View & ShareI never thought I was a great mom. I always worked. I fell in love with my children as they got older.
Copy Quote View & ShareMy family always believed in me, even when I didn't. Having that love and support made me not afraid of failing. I knew my mom would be proud of me just for taking a chance and pursuing my dream.
Copy Quote View & ShareMy mom told me to cover up my arms ever since I was little because I was muscular. She wanted me to be feminine, which did not come easy to me. My body was what it was, and I worked it to be a better tennis player.
Copy Quote View & ShareAs a working mom, I know all too well how important it is to know that your children have a safe and healthy environment while away from home.
Copy Quote View & ShareThere've been a few mother-daughter movies that are somewhat realistic. But the mother-son movies are more comical than realistic: 'Throw Momma from the Train,' 'Stop! or My Mom Will Shoot.' You don't sit in the dark and go, 'Oh my God, that's my mother.'
Copy Quote View & ShareMy mom was pregnant with me when she was 15 years old. She went to a majority white school so of course her being 15 years old, pregnant by a Black man, that was just too much for them to handle.
Copy Quote View & ShareMy mom to this day is the hardest coach I've ever had. There were times when my stepdad would look at me and say 'you had a good game' and my mom would be like 'I don't know what you're talking about, you had 2 or 3 turnovers.
Copy Quote View & ShareI went to Brown University, but my mom said I couldn't be an artist because I would starve.
Copy Quote View & ShareI wanted to find raw talent and help build it from scratch. I wanted to build from rags to riches. That's the way Ear Drummers did it. We took over the music industry from my mom's basement. That's why my first album is going to be called 'Made It Out the Basement.'
Copy Quote View & ShareMy mom was always very, very careful with my mind: what I saw and didn't see.
Copy Quote View & ShareI've had broken bones and cuts and dashes and tears from movies, but when I was five, my mom put the biscuits up high so we wouldn't be helping ourselves. So, one day I asked to stand up on a chair to get a biscuit, and it fell, and the corner of the chair went right into the side of my eye, and it made a big hole in there.
Copy Quote View & ShareEvery day, my mom and I would watch a different Judy Garland VHS. I love how she tells a story when she sings. It was just about her voice and the words she was singing - no strings attached or silly hair or costumes, just a woman singing her heart out. I feel like that doesn't happen that much anymore.
Copy Quote View & ShareWhat I'm trying to say is, I'm really happy I'm not a doctor. So, take that mom and dad.
