I spent two great seasons playing in the Russian championship. I could have stayed there, but I went to the Premier League, which is much more competitive and requires much greater levels of fitness.
Copy Quote View & ShareThe funny thing is, we teach - as a culture, we teach people that it's OK to talk about your fitness goals... Like, I want to be more physically fit, I want to drop 10 pounds, but no one's talking about how I can spend 10 days to get happier.
Copy Quote View & ShareFor me personally, fitness is more about a lifestyle. It's not just about looking good but also doing stunts. For me, it's a 360 degree approach - whether it's working out, food we eat, sleeping on time, everything comes together to be fit.
Copy Quote View & ShareOne thing that I'm super fortunate of - I grew up in a house where it was all about health and fitness. My dad was a wrestler; he was a boxer. He's always been into working out, and so I was the only kid in the first grade that got carrot sticks at school instead of chips.
Copy Quote View & ShareI suffer panic attacks which has made me really conscious about my fitness and I have become addicted to jogging. It might sound odd but a lot of good has come out of it. My fans send letters saying they have taken up jogging because I do it.
Copy Quote View & ShareAlthough I train hard with England and Rajasthan Royals, when I am at home in London I always like to join some group fitness classes and experiment with new workout ideas.
Copy Quote View & ShareSometimes fitness is a good thing to have, but you have to recognise that fitness takes you only so far, and skills are the most important thing. Fitness just helps you execute those cricketing skills for longer and more consistently, maybe.
Copy Quote View & ShareWith fitness, I decided that I wanted to get into shape, and my passion for fitness and a desire to help other people do the same made me decide to do a fitness video. People always tell me they want to work out to my songs, so why not make a fitness DVD.
Copy Quote View & ShareI used to be very into fitness and would happily pose for photos in my bikini. Now I look at those and think, 'Where did that body go?' But that was before children.
Copy Quote View & ShareFitness of a top-class squash player is very important, and talent only can't do the job. They have to get training regularly for at least eight hours a day so that they could put some good show in a two-hour match.
Copy Quote View & ShareOf course, on the road with me, I've got my coach, my own private physiotherapist. Back home, I have another coach who coaches me and also does all my racquets. I have a fitness trainer. I have a mental coach. It's a pretty big team.
Copy Quote View & ShareFor whatever reason, maybe it's because of my story, but people associate Livestrong with exercise and physical fitness, health and lifestyle choices like that.
Copy Quote View & ShareI've been into exercise my whole life, been a runner and been into health and fitness always.
Copy Quote View & ShareWhat I had said was that as a cricketer, you have to take care of your body and look after your fitness levels, and someone altered that statement and quoted me as saying that I wanted to quit playing Test cricket. It's totally untrue, and as long as I am fit, I want to play in all formats.
Copy Quote View & ShareWhile I've got my health and fitness, I'm available... except for panto, of course. Too bloody much like hard work.
Copy Quote View & ShareNever, ever exercise in front of a TV or while reading. You lose 50 percent of the benefit of the exercise by not hearing and feeling your heart rate, your sweat and the pain levels that need to be encountered in fitness training.
Copy Quote View & ShareEven when I was training alone, just me and one of United's fitness coaches, I loved going onto the field, doing sprints, being at the training ground.
